My Skincare Routine | Kirsty Martin

Have you ever wondered what skincare products your beauty therapist uses?

In this Jamele Skincare series we share the skincare routines of our therapists who care for you and your skin. So grab a herbal tea and satisfy your curiosity! You might learn a few things that apply to your own skincare goals and routines. In this blog post we chat to Kirsty Martin, Clinic Manager and Senior Therapist at Jamele Skincare.

Kirsty, what skincare range do you use?

I have been a big Janesce Skincare fan for years. I’ve experimented with other products at times in the past, but have always found myself back using Janesce. It seems to be the best fit for my skin. I love knowing it’s plant-based and gentle, but incredibly effective.  I’m definitely influenced by scents and smells so naturally I gravitate towards Janesce and the amazing sensory experience it offers.

Skin Type: My skin type is normal combination but is changing as I am getting older.

Skincare Tip: I swear by the Janesce Skin Soaking Ritual as a way of maintaining hydration and that trademark ‘Janesce Glow’. You can do the soaking ritual no matter what skincare range you use.

If you are not a Janesce user, simply buy a pack of Janesce Soaking Cloths and your choice of Janesce Soaking Drops and do the Janesce Skin Soaking Ritual each morning and evening as part of your skin routine.

Can you run us through your daily skincare routine?

MORNING

Janesce Soaking Ritual: with Soothing Soaking Drops ( but I like to change up Soaking Drops often).
Concentrates/Serums: Janesce SK1 Concentrate, Janesce Orange Blossom Mist and Bestow The Graces Brightening Lotion (amazing for pigmentation!)
Moisturiser: Janesce Solutions Anti-oxidant Lotion
Suncare: Janesce Suncare Lotion (daily) and My Sunshine Sunscreen (when needed).
Eye Care: Environ Youth Essentia Eye Gel

EVENING

Cleanse: Janesce Rose Cleanser
Janesce Soaking Ritual: with Soothing Soaking Drops
Concentrates/Serums: Janesce SK1 Concentrate, Janesce Orange Blossom Mist and Bestow The Graces Brightening Lotion
Moisturiser: Janesce Solutions Anti-oxidant Lotion or Janesce Aromatic Facial Oil (Lavender or Orange Blossom)
Eye Care: Environ Youth Essentia Eye Gel
Anti-Ageing: Janesce Suncare Lotion (for extra Vitamin A)

Kirsty’s Notes

  • I like to use the Janesce Orange Blossom Mist for the skin calming benefits as I can breakout sometimes. If my skin is feeling extra sensitive I’ll use Janesce Soothing Mist instead.

  • Even though I’m a Janesce girl, I swear by the Environ Visia-Peptide Eye Gel. I recommend it to all my clients, no matter what skincare range they use.

  • I use My Sunshine Sunscreen when I’m going for a walk up the Papamoa Hills or or walking along the beach. I am quite conscious of protecting my décolleté area from the sun as we see a lot of sun damage and sun spots removed from this area in our industry.

  • I’ve always used Janesce Suncare Lotion as an extra treatment moisturiser everyday. I like the fact that it’s rich in Vitamin A - that’s why I use it at night time too! Vitamin A is incredibly important for anti-ageing.

What skin nutrition products/supplements do you take?

What we put on our skin is only half the story. I use Bestow Bestow skin nutrition boosters to nourish my skin from within on a daily base, as well a few extra supplements for health and skin support.

Bestow Beauty From Beneath is a food-based, skin-specific dietary supplement, delivering vitamins and minerals from 100% certified organic plant sources in a convenient capsule form.
I take two capsules per day.

Bestow Beauty Plus Oil provides a skin-friendly, vegan supply of Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) to deliver the best balance of healthy fats for clear, glowing skin.
I have a dessertspoon a day over muesli.

Together these two products are known as the Bestow Beauty Basics and my wish would be for every one of our clients to take them regularly to support skin health and beuaty.

Bestow Collagen Boost Powder slows down the visible signs of ageing. Collagen peptides and zinc boost skin elasticity, plump out wrinkles and promote younger looking skin.
I take one tablespoon stirred into water once a day.

Viroban is a dietary supplement to support immune function from the New Zealand Longevity Foundation.
I take one capsule per day to help keep me well.

Vitamin C and Vitamin D supplements from the New Zealand Longevity Foundation.
I take one capsule per day of Vitamin C and one Vitamin D capsule every few days.

Do you have regular facial treatments?

I’m usually pretty busy giving facials to our clients! But I do aim fit in one facial a month for myself if I can.

The Janesce Slow Beauty Facial is a fave, but I also love to change it up with the Dermaviduals Bespoke Facial. The enzyme peel and alginate mask are addictive and you see an instant result after the facial! I also love a good 10% lactic acid treatment in the Environ Bright Recovery Peel. It’s very gentle on the skin and has a brightening effect.

I plan to have a few CIT Facial Treatments this winter. This is this is an advanced skin treatment that targets anti-ageing and improves acne scarring and skin texture.

Can you tell us a bit about your skin story?

My skin journey has had many ups and down. I suffered from acne from about 18 years old and began my beauty therapy career with a face full of acne. That was not much fun. Not knowing then what I know now about healing acne holistically, I went on a course of roaccutane. I would not recommend this! I think it has been a factor in many of my skin challenges since.

My skin can be quite sensitive at times but I have learnt what my triggers are internally and topically and know how to avoid these. Because of my own skin story, I have dug deep into skin nutrition and a whole-person approach to beauty therapy. Janesce Skincare and Bestow Beauty have been key to this journey as they focus as much on internals as topical skincare.

As a result of my experiences, I have been able to help others with similar skin challenges throughout my career, which is very rewarding.

We get it. Choosing skincare products can be overwhelming. You don’t want to waste money on the latest fad.  At Jamele, you can get expert skincare advice from a beauty therapist who has your best interests at heart.
